In 1865, Confederate President Jefferson Davis and his entourage are on the run, eager to connect with Southern forces west of the Mississippi River. Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Pritchard is equally eager to end their flight. In Georgia, Pritchard leads an attack where Davis attempts to escape disguised as a woman and is captured. While the Northern press depicts Davis as a coward and buffoon, Pritchard receives accolades, a promotion and a share of the reward paid to soldiers directly responsible for capturing Davis.
