Oil in Iran needs protecting . . . in 1914!

On 5 November 1914, Great Britain declares war on the Ottoman Empire. The next day, British troops land at the southern tip of Iran. Their mission: to protect the oil fields in nearby Abadan. Soon, the British invade the Tigris River valley to ensure the continued flow of oil.
